Apple Watch 5 to 10 comparison
Since there's been a lot of other stuff going on, I've not been able to think of much to write on here, and testing has ground to a halt.
I did have an Apple Watch 5 which won't support the latest version of WatchOS, so felt it was really time to upgrade it this year. Battery life has been getting worse and I figure that 5 years of white hot innovation would add up to a reasonably significant upgrade.
I think Apple's marketing on this is skirting the borders of misleading though. Putting a black watch at the most optimal angle, then using a white reflection underneath, really does give the impression that the watch is thinner than it actually is, while being totally defensible once you look closely.
Who knew Apple did full on marketing eh?
Anyway - the noticeable difference seems to be speed rather than features, though the pinch-tap gesture is definitely nice when cancelling a timer. The other main difference is stability when using Apple Fitness+ connecting to an Apple TV, or when pairing to AirPods. It used to be very hit or miss, but now appears to be solid for the most part.
The other thing is that widgets and icons which previously hadn't been sized correctly for a series 5 watch, all appear as normal now. I won't name which apps, but you can tell who skimped on regression testing.
Overall, it's really nice. The shiny black case is very shiny and the new faces are fine, though I can't help feeling I ought to experiment more with different ones.
